Download A Nicki Minaj-Centric Version Of Kanye West’s “Monster” With Kanye West Conveniently Removed

As we’re now officially in My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy‘s backlash stage — a function of both ambient critical regret and the super-queasy misogyny (and alleged Dr. Dog plagiarism) of the official “Monster” video — perhaps its time to sidestep the question of whether you can separate Kanye’s ego from his art and simply separate Kanye from the record altogether — a sort of musical Garfield Minus Garfield. To that end, please enjoy “Monster (Kingdom Edit),” which reduces one of MBDTF‘s best moments to its essence: Nicki Minaj’s bonkers verse. (Rick Ross sneaks in there too, but he’s pretty innocuous for once.) This requires a good deal of stretching — the “Pink wig/Thick ass” part gets a thorough workout — and yet it’s hard to deny how much calmer things feel. This oughta hold you over until the backlash to the backlash, whereupon Kanye-only remixes will start circulating. Embedded below. Have fun.
