Chuchito Valdes


The latest in a genetic string of Cuban jazz-piano venerables that began with Bebo Valdes and continued with his son Chucho, Havana-born Chuchito Valdes took over his father’s spot in the groundbreaking group Irakere before going solo. He’s a muscular yet lyrical soloist who seamlessly blends bebop and Afro-Cuban rhythms into a stirring reflection of the weird invisible divide still segregating the island from its American neighbors.
