Today, some excellent news for both the Atlantic Ocean and fish ‘n’ chip fanatics: Haddock has returned to the East Coast.
Barry Estabrook at The Atlantic Food Channel brings word that the Atlantic haddock, which was once seriously overfished, has been moved by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch from its “Avoid” list to its “Good Alternative” roster.
The aquarium has also promoted summer flounder, Atlantic pollock, and line-caught Gulf of Maine cod to the list, illustrating the effectiveness of sound management practices. Even better, line-caught haddock now occupies the aquarium’s “Best” category, making it one of the rare species that allows diners to maintain clear consciences while clearing their plates.
