For the past two years, a dead person has contributed thousands of political-campaign dollars to the Tea Party Express, according to an investigation by Michael Beckel of the Center for Responsive Politics. He calls it “political gifts from beyond the grave,” referring to donations made by Joan Snyder Holmes of Guam.
Cremated in 2007 (her ashes resting in Arlington National Cemetery), Holmes nevertheless donated $2,500 in 2009 to Our Country Deserves Better PAC. Last September, she gave $5,000 more. Her widower husband, Lee Holmes, denies that he made the donations in her name, according to Beckel’s story.
