Last week’s globalFEST 2011 blowout at Webster Hall packed 13 acts from Brazil, India, Cuba, Mali, Sengal, Hawaii, Honduras, France, Egypt, Colombia, Peru, the Congo, and New York City onto three stages, a staggering panoply of stuff you’ve probably neither seen nor heard before. But if you happened to miss it, fear not, because NPR apparently taped the whole thing for you.
Verily, here are stream/download links to all 13 globalFEST sets, from Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole to Novalima to Orquestra Contemporanea de Olinda. The one I’m currently stuck on is NYC’s own Red Baraat, the bhangra-brass-band guys; it’s not quite the same listening experience without several hundred people there sweating on you, but perhaps this serves as a better introduction.
