Following Health Department closures and a six-month renovation, the 90-year-old Nom Wah Tea Parlor has returned to little Doyers Street, fully intact and with a few new additions to its menu.
The Daily News reports that the restaurant is now being run by Wilson Tang, a 32-year-old former financier whose uncle, Wally Tang, worked at Nom Wah for 60 years. The younger Tang has preserved the dining room and renovated the kitchen, which will be staffed by the restaurant’s former chefs. They’ll cook a slightly expanded menu that includes a new dim sum sampler in addition to its nine traditional items. There will also be the same 10 traditional teas, though Tang may add some more Western flavors to the menu.
The tea parlor will also be getting a new neighbor, courtesy of the owners of Apotheke, who are planning to open Pulqueria, a Mexican restaurant, next door.
