Week In Review: We Didn’t Get LCD Soundsystem Tickets, Either

‘Twas a week of profound excitement undercut by crushing disappointment, all swirling around the same event: LCD Soundsystem at Madison Square Garden. It was announced. People got excited. A Wednesday-morning presale line wrapped around the Lower East Side. But a lot people got shut out. Then came today’s actual Ticketmaster sale, from which seemingly everybody got shut out. Now nobody’s happy except for, you guessed it, the good people at Stubhub. This is sure to end well.

It all started so promisingly, this week, with a bemused nation mocking the Black Eyed Peas’ Super Bowl performance, which actually wasn’t that terrible. (It did make us wonder who they’ll get next year, though.) As the going got tougher, we distracted ourselves by asking sex-shop employees about the Rihanna’s “S&M” video, delighting in the hardcore-rap offerings of underground label, trying to name Metallica’s bass players, mourning the death of Guitar Hero, and watching in awe as Prince kicked Kim Kardashian offstage.

Live shows of note: Robyn at Radio City, the Stretch and Bobbito reunion at Le Poisson Rouge, Titus Andronicus at Mercury Lounge, Wayne Shorter at Town Hall, Friendly Fires at Bowery Ballroom, and Monotonix’ final (?) Brooklyn show on Kent Street. Concert photographers citywide are still in mourning over that one.

Stuff to listen to: Juliana Barwick’s vocal-loop fantasia, the new Strokes single, Psychic Paramount’s psych-rock freakouts, and Weingarten in duet with Justin Bieber. He’s apparently gonna do that live a bunch more times, so get excited.

Anyway, that was quite a week. Here’s some stuff to do this weekend to blow off steam; you can mostly likely catch one of us at one of those Party of Helicopters gigs. See you there, or Monday, whichever comes first.
