Scottish Deerhound Takes Westminster; Kim Jong-il Lies About His Age; Lara Logan Released From Hospital


• A five-year-old Scottish deerhound named Hickory won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show last night, beating the Pekingese, Portuguese water dog, Chinese shar-pei, smooth fox terrier, bearded collie, and black cocker spaniel. Hickory is an “outstanding dog. Moving and type (were) super,” apparently. Still, not as cute as the Pekingese. [CNN]

• Kim Jong-un, the son of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, has been named vice chairman of the defense commission, making him the second most powerful official in North Korea. In related news, it’s Kim Jong-il’s birthday today. He claims he’s 69, though records show he’s actually 70. [NYT, BBC]

CBS News Correspondent Lara Logan, who was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted while on assignment in Egypt’s Tahrir Square, has been released from the hospital and reunited with her family. [ABC]

• A pedestrian was killed by a tractor-trailer at the corner of Delancey Street and the Bowery on Monday. (Bowery was recently named one of the most dangerous streets for pedestrians in New York City.) [DNAInfo]
