Last October, we first noticed the sign for Teqa, a new taqueria/tequileria in Murray Hill. Now, it looks like the place is gearing up for a March opening, with a Top Chef alum at the helm and 120 tequilas and mezcals in stock.
Thrillist is reporting that the Mexican cantina will specialize in soft-shell tacos stuffed with such options as beer-battered shrimp, grilled tilapia, barbecued chicken, and Guinness-braised short ribs. Teqa’s website divulges the rest: Former cheftestant and Derek Jeter personal chef Lisa Schoen heads up the kitchen, while cocktails are curated by John Lermayer of the Delano Hotel in Miami and Naren Young of Locanda Verde. Owner Derek Axelrod has already expresses already an interest in expanding the Teqa brand to other neighborhoods.
