You’ve heard of pop-up restaurants and pop-up bars? Well, last night we witnessed the phenomenon of pop-up bartenders, as scribes from three food-obsessed websites introduced cocktails at Fatty Johnson’s on Carmine Street in the West Village.
Jordana Rothman of Time Out served up a gin and apple punch, finished at the last minute with scrapings from a whole nutmeg, and served in festive punch glasses.
There was nary a mixologist in sight as Chantal Martineau of The Village Voice‘s Fork in the Road, Jordana Rothman of Time Out New York, and Matt Rodbard of Metromix served up their chosen cocktails.
The event began at 5 in the afternoon and extended past 8, as the three participants lined up at the bar and served up drinks with the dexterity of Rockettes kicking high at Christmastide. The bar throng included staffers from all three publications, assembled to cheer on their colleagues.
