Two worlds are colliding in the latest Spider-Man comic, and it’s not a clash between the forces of good and evil. Well, that eventually happens, too, but more surprising is the merging of the culinary world and the artistic. Eli Kirshtein, best known as being a contestant on Season 6 of Top Chef, stars in the comic Spider-Man: A Meal to Die For.
How did this merging of the worlds occur? Twitter, naturally. Kirshtein and C.B. Cebulski, Marvel SVP of creator and content development, met on the microblogging site and Kirshtein asked if he could be in a Spider-Man comic. And the man said yes!
In the comic, which is available for free at the Marvel Comics App and Marvel Digital Comics, Peter Parker takes his girlfriend Carlie on a date to meet Kirshtein at a fancy New York restaurant (where Jay-Z and Beyoncé are eating! Could it be Lucali?), but the diabolical Mysterio has plans to ruin everything! What will happen? Will the kitchen knives come out? Here’s a sneak peek:
Bizarre, yes. But hey, if the Muppets can star on Top Chef, then maybe it’s not so odd that a cheftestant can be in a comic.
