Chris Christie: Hot, Sexy, Lying and Popular!

Above is a video clip of a woman at a Sussex County town hall meeting telling New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who the New York Times Magazine called “fat,” that he is “hot and sexy” because he’s “smart and… has the perseverance to do what’s right.” A recent national survey named Christie the “hottest politician,” but that one just meant he’s more popular than President Obama. It doesn’t even matter that he doesn’t really tell the truth!

Despite scoring 57 degrees on the “feeling thermometer,” higher than everyone except Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton, the New York Times writes today that the tough talk that’s propelling him into the national conversation, as people start to get itchy for a capable Republican come 2012, doesn’t always check out.

“Clearly there has been a pattern of the governor playing fast and loose with the details,” a political science professor told the Times. “But so far, he’s been adept at getting the public to believe what he says.”

Mr. Christie, a Republican who took office in January 2010, would hardly be the first politician to indulge in hyperbole or gloss over facts. But his misstatements, exaggerations and carefully constructed claims belie the national image he has built as a blunt talker who gives straight answers to hard questions, especially about budgets and labor relations. Candor is central to Mr. Christie’s appeal, and a review of his public statements over the past year shows some of them do not hold up to scrutiny.

But his fans love him! Just forget the facts and watch the video.
