The Dears

After years of suffering through piecemeal singles such as “Whites Only Party,” sudden lineup changes, and Murray Lightburn’s refusal to write another hit, the Dears dropped their best album in years, February’s Degeneration Street. Finally realizing that “accessible” isn’t a dirty word, singles “Blood” and “Omega Dog” utilize their Foo Fighters/Radiohead influences for pure Montreal melancholia. Live, they tend to switch between posturing and intense showmanship at the drop of a minor key, so stick out the yawns for true transformation.
