After months of semi-hushed rumor mongering about Taavo Somer’s South Williamsburg outpost of Freeman’s, Eater has it that the restaurant, located on South 2nd Street and Wythe Avenue, will be “some kind of hippie place.” Whether it will be an Altamont kind of hippie place or a Woodstock kind of hippie place is as yet unknown; perhaps some clues can be found in the length of Somer’s beard these days. In addition to envisioning caftans and whole grains, we’re also envisioning Ignacio Mattos in the kitchen: Apparently the Uruguyan chef, late of Il Buco, has been hired to run the show.
