Think you’re the next Cassavetes? Let the audience decide at Video Smackdown, an “open mic night for film lovers” presented by Jerm Pollet and Michael Austin, the comedians behind the popular Raspberry Brothers B-movie nights. Bring in your best short film (sex tapes welcome!) and put it up on the big screen at the Bell House. After two minutes, the audience decides whether the gong should be smacked or if the film can continue to play (up to 10 minutes). Don’t have a film? You can also bring in any VHS, DVD, or CD with video file that you think is worthy of the challenge—the more bizarre the better—for the chance to take home up to $100 in prize money. For better odds, everyone should hope Luke Matheny, the Oscar-winning NYU student, doesn’t hear about this.
