Wasifuddin Dagar

by

Dhrupad is the oldest form of North Indian classical music, and the Dagar family has been singing it for some 20 generations, steadily molding dhrupad into a magnificent and deeply moving style all their own. Wasifuddin, the son of one of the late Dagar Brothers, has broken with family tradition by performing as a soloist. Expect two or three extended ragas during the evening, with Mohan Shyam Sharma accompanying Wasifuddin on the pakhawaj (double-headed drum).
