Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: Voyager
The bar: Jeffrey’s Grocery (172 Waverly Place, 646-398-7630)
The price: $11
The ingredients: Carménère, Lillet Rouge, orange juice, and cherry bitters.
The buzz: It was never much of a grocery to begin with and now, after a brief closure and renovation, the food-shopping section of Jeffrey’s has been replaced with more seats for more dining and drinking. Hurrah. The drinking part of the equation is limited to wine and beer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a cocktail. The Voyager, for example, is something of a sangria, made with the Bordeaux varietal poised to be the next Malbec. It can be a little heavy on the orange juice — the way you made the sangria for your first dinner party — but livened up with cherry bitters. And the festive champagne flute it’s served in is perfect for celebrating the greater likelihood of getting a table in under an hour.
