Previously, we’ve covered the Red Cross’s efforts to help Japan, and answered the question of “What Is the Red Cross Doing With Your Donations to Japan?” Today, the American Red Cross announced that the total amounted donated to Japan for relief following the earthquake and tsunami has reached $120.5 million.
They’ve already sent $10 million and will provide the Japanese Red Cross with another $50 million in the next few days, with the remainder to become available as funds come in. The organization has also given $500,000 to the UN’s World Food Programme to help support delivery and storage of food to survivors, sent blankets and emergency kits, and helped with evacuations.
In the latest tally from the Japan National Police Agency, 11,082 people have been reported killed and 16,717 are missing.
