If you’re a fan of Dave Eggers’s literary magazine McSweeney’s, you’re probably already familiar with Wholphin, their quarterly DVD magazine that brings a wide range of short films, docs, instructional videos, foreign sitcoms, and other quirky works to your doorstep. Tonight, as a part of IFC’s Stranger Than Fiction documentary series, Wholphin curator Brent Hoff presents 90 minutes of his favorite shorts from several recent issues. The works include Arsy Varsy, a film from Slovenia that Hoff says is “perhaps the most cathartically wonderful and uplifting documentary short film I’ve ever seen”; Here Comes Greatness, about underground backyard wrestling; and an episode of Derek Waters’s very funny Drunk History.
