Watch Out, It’s April Fool’s Day; Unemployment Down, Jobs Added in March; Mad Men Will Return


• It’s April 1, a/k/a, April Fool’s Day, and the Internet jokes are running rampant, so…keep your wits about you. The Telegraph has rounded up their favorite hoaxes of the day. Sadly, Ikea is not really manufacturing a highchair for dogs. [Telegraph]

• The snow/rain predicted for today seems to have turned into simply rain in the city — er, with a wee bit of snow — so bring an umbrella. [Weather]

• Employers added 216,000 jobs in March, and the unemployment rate has fallen to a reported two-year low of 8.8 percent. The private sector gained 230,000 jobs. [WP]

• Prepare for your electric bill to go up. [NYP]

• The Bronx Zoo and the Daily News are teaming up to sponsor a name-the-cobra contest for the recently recovered escapee cobra. Zoo protocol as to how the cobra is kept has not changed, by the way, although they’re looking into it. [NYDN]

• After some complications in negotiations, Mad Men will return. AMC has made a deal with show creator Matthew Weiner that will take the show through two more seasons, with an option for a third. Weiner says seven seasons will let him finish the show. “That’s how long the show is,” he said. “I’m just thrilled I get to finish it.” [NYT]

• “Okla. woman fights to keep paralyzed kangaroo.” Not a joke. [MSNBC]
