Well, this is grand: NYU’s Fales Library is now home to 50,000 books about food and cooking. The volume of its volumes makes it one of the most extensive culinary collections in the country, The New York Times‘ City Room reports.
The Fales collection attained its current size through a recent donation of 21,000 books from George and Jennifer Lang, who are better known as the owners of the late and lamented Café des Artistes. Its breadth and variety means that researchers can now find books on just about anything having to do with food, whether it’s Cooking for Orgies and Other Large Parties or Ethiopian cookbooks.
Incidentally, you can buy Cooking for Orgies and Other Large Parties on Amazon. It contains the following useful advice: “With an orgy … the meal is really secondary … and everybody will not be eating at the same time.” According to one review from a user who bought the book when it was first published in 1972, “some of the recipes were over-peppered, but … quite good!”
