It’s tempting to call Punch Brothers one of the finest young bluegrass bands in the country, except for the strict bluegrass purists who would protest that on the internet. Indeed, their best moments may be those where mandolin wizard Chris Thile’s keen melodic sense collapses, leading his bandmates into gentle washes of abstract tones. So, fine–they’re one of the greatest young bands in the country, bluegrass or otherwise.
