On Monday, a propane tank on the Frites ‘n’ Meats truck exploded, injuring two of its workers and all but destroying the vehicle. Fortunately, both workers will recover, but it’s going to be a while before it’s back to business as usual.
So the NYC Food Truck Association is stepping up to help: All day today, its members, which include Korilla BBQ, Taïm Mobile, and the Treats Truck, will be donating a portion of their proceeds to Hiassam, Mohamed, and Ali Beydoun, the brothers who own Frites ‘n’ Meats.
Hiassam Beydoun has taken to the FnM blog to give an update on his brother Mohamed’s health (he’s getting better), express his gratitude, and provide some information for those who want make additional donations and keep up to date on rebuilding efforts. “This is why NYC is really the best place in the world,” he writes. “In the time of need everyone wants to help, so much so that you don’t even know how to accept all that help.”
