People have lots of strong opinions about the musical outfit that goes by the name Animal Collective, and expect those comment-section arguments to rage now that the band has taken it upon itself to tour this summer. (Brooklyn Vegan’s already lighting up! Can someone get me some hummus?) So far they’ve announced a single New York date, a Celebrate Brooklyn! benefit taking place on the evening of July 12 at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Tickets to the show go on presale at noon today, and are $40.80 with fees; the rest of you can get your tickets beginning Friday at noon.
Also playing Prospect Park this summer is Cut Copy, whose Celebrate Brooklyn! benefit show is on August 11 with Foster the People opening; tickets for that show go on sale at noon Friday as well.
And finally, just announced: The US installment of R. Kelly’s Love Letter tour, in which the Pied Piper of R&B will bring his stellar new album to venues around this fair country of ours. (Keyshia Cole and Marsha Ambrosius open.) The only New York-area date so far is set for June 30 at Newark’s Prudential Center, and I don’t think it’s too much to hope that his stage show somehow involves him recreating the microphones-in-the-car scene from the “When A Woman Loves” video.
