Gary Numan and Boredoms’ Yamataka Eye are among the guests who fill the vocal gap left by departed member Tyondai Braxton on the research-rockers’ frizz-taming second album, Gloss Drop. If anything, the heavy motorik magic of debut Mirrors seems to have picked up even more emotional resonance in the hands of the three remaining Battles, who had to deconstruct and reconfigure virtually the entire album once Braxton left, resulting in a dense, shiny, sweat-stained gem.
