Elation mixes with intricacy in the songbooks of these masters, and pianist Roberts often combines both elements in his own impressive work. Making the program more intriguing is the fact that out of oodles of jazz homages that have cropped up through the years, Hines and Powell haven’t gotten their due. Hearing gems such as “Bubbling Over” or “Dance of the Infidels” will be a joy. There’s a pre-show discussion at 7 pm, and Roberts definitely has opinions.
