Perhaps as a way of tiding themselves over until June’s Big Apple BBQ Block Party (should it actually happen), the intrepid folks at Serious Eats have trotted out their picks for the best barbecue pork ribs in Manhattan.
Out of the seven contenders, Rock and Soul’s BBQ baby-back ribs, with their “hint of spice … meaty body, and … light, woody finish,” took top honors. Although it sounds as if the competition wasn’t particularly fierce: “While great barbecue can be found in Manhattan,” the judges concluded, “most of the ribs in this tasting were underwhelming, and for a variety of reasons.”
Ouch. Maybe they’d have better luck in Brooklyn, where Our Man Sietsema found the ribs at Mable’s Smokehouse to be “nicely cooked and tender.”
