2010 was not the best year for Ratha Chaupoly: In August, he closed Kampuchea and replaced it with Bun & Co., only to close it four months later. But 2011 seems to have gotten off to a better start, as Chaupoly will open a second location of Num Pang next month.
That news comes from Black Book, which reports that the second location of the Cambodian sandwich shop will be somewhere in Manhattan and not, amazingly, in Williamsburg.
Chaupoly and his business partner Ben Daitz are keeping mum on specifics of the new location due to some kind of PR embargo, but they did disclose that on Tuesday they broke their single-day sales record at the original Num Pang, which is located just south of Union Square. Never doubt the staying power of a cauliflower sandwich.
