So, it seems that Charlie Sheen is trying to help out after deadly tornadoes hit Alabama last week. He visited Tuscaloosa today (wearing a white University of Alabama hat) “to survey tornado damage” and meet with Mayor Walt Maddox, who’s hopeful that Sheen’s celebrity status will help with raising money to repair the city.
We haven’t been big fans of Sheen’s antics on this blog, but if he’s actually using his celebrity to help a place that desperately needs it, well, we’ll give credit where credit is due. (And, hey, he could use some good publicity for a change.)
Sheen was apparently asked to come to the city by a University of Alabama student on Twitter. He wants to plan a relief event, he said. (Via Forbes, Maddox said, “I hope he’s sincere when he says he’ll come back.”)
Here’s video from the University of Alabama student newspaper, The Crimson White:
According to the latest reports, the death toll from the tornadoes is now at 345. This before-and-after aerial shot of Tuscaloosa shows the extensive damage.
