Doug Quint is no longer a mere bassoonist and soft-serve vendor: The co-proprietor of the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck is now also a cookbook author. Serious Eats reports that Quint and his partner, Bryan Petroff, are working on a cookbook to be published in the spring of 2012. The book will include recipes for sauces, toppings, and ice cream, but since custard bases, Quint said, “can scare people,” the ice cream recipes will be eggless.
The news is an auspicious start to what promises to be a very big gay week: The truck returns to the streets tomorrow, and will appear at the Lucky Rice Night Market on Wednesday.
