It was only last month that things seemed to finally be looking up for Ray’s Candy Store, thanks to the power of social networking. But now the 37-year-old store is once again in the news for the wrong reasons: It has been shuttered by the DOH. EV Grieve reports that the department’s dreaded yellow badge of shame is now posted on Ray’s Avenue A storefront. During its last inspection, on November 10, Ray’s earned a “B” for “inadequate” “personal cleanliness,” the absence of an “effective hair restraint,” and no food-protection certificate.
