Arnold Schwarzenegger Had a Love Child With the Help; Bomb Found in Ireland Prior to Queen’s Arrival


• Arnold Schwarzenegger has admitted that his separation with wife Maria Shriver came after he confessed to having fathered a child more than 10 years ago, before his first run for office, with a member of their household staff. The staff member retired in January after working for the family for 20 years. “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” Schwarzenegger said Monday night, along with issuing apologies to Maria, his children, and his family. The woman had claimed that her then-husband was the child’s father and has declined to comment further. [LAT]

• A pipe bomb was found in a tote bag in the luggage compartment of a bus headed toward Dublin and diffused hours before Queen Elizabeth II’s arrival there. The Queen’s visit marks the first “by a reigning British monarch to the Irish Republic.” A bomb threat had also been received in London that police considered credible. [NYT]

• The FDNY is not identifying which 20 fire companies are slated to close as a part of budget cuts, causing the City Council to threaten legal action. According to sources, those companies may include Engine 271 in Bushwick, Ladder 53 on Staten Island, Engine 161 on Staten Island, and Engine 4 near the South Street Seaport. • A house exploded on Staten Island just before 2:45 a.m. Tuesday. A dozen residents fled; no one was killed. The cause of the fire and blast was not immediately known. [ABC News]

• A work train derailed on the Manhattan Bridge outside of DeKalb Avenue, leading to suspensions of the B train in both directions, and delays on the D, F, N, Q, and R trains. MTA workers were on the derailed train, but no one was injured. [WNYC]
