Barack Obama Selling Birth Certificate T-Shirt

The President of the United States has new merchandise! Just as the 2012 race is heating up on the opposing side — with glitter and millions of dollars for Mitt — the defending champion is flexing some branding muscle too, with T-shirts coming with any donation from $25 on up. The front features the smiling Commander in Chief and the text “MADE in the USA,” and on the back, the famous, elusive long-form birth certificate! But where is that birth certificate, anyway?

(It’s everywhere.)

And yet Jerome Corsi, professional moron and cover racist, is still asking that question in his new book, Where’s the Birth Certificate?, out this week. Esquire celebrated the bullshit book’s release with a parody, “reporting” that the book would be pulled from the shelves “in light of recent events,” like the release of the birth certificate, but not everyone got the joke. The article now comes with an update:

12:25 p.m., for those who didn’t figure it out yet, and the many on Twitter for whom it took a while: We committed satire this morning to point out the problems with selling and marketing a book that has had its core premise and reason to exist gutted by the news cycle, several weeks in advance of publication. Are its author and publisher chastened? Well, no. They double down, and accuse the President of the United States of perpetrating a fraud on the world by having released a forged birth certificate. Not because this claim is in any way based on reality, but to hold their terribly gullible audience captive to their lies, and to sell books. This is despicable, and deserves only ridicule. That’s why we committed satire in the matter of the Corsi book.

Now Corsi’s publisher is talking about suing, which could only be outdone in assholery if (or when) Donald Trump demands a portion of Obama’s T-shirt proceeds.
