Black Joe Lewis & the Honey Bears

by

One of the few soul revivalist bands doing justice to Jake and Elwood Blues, this eight-piece, Austin-based funk posse is the perfect complement to your all-day beef bender. Bringing the brisket is frontman Joe Lewis, who testifies like Wilson Pickett on a 5-Hour Energy binge. Then there’s the rub–a boozy melange of seasoning, from Booker T. and the MGs to the Meters to Hubert Sumlin. The ingredients all come together with enough stank, oomph, and kick-in-the-pants flavor to take you beyond the Applebee’s of strip-mall pop to a backwoods hootenanny that doesn’t stop till the still runs dry. With Doug Wamble and Those Darlins.
