The German saxophonist doesn’t have to roar alone tonight–he has several colleagues to assist with the sturm und drang he’s placed at the center of his explosive, collaborative art during the past 50 years. Joe McPhee matches him blast for blast in a quartet, and Mars Williams and Ken Vandermark align their reeds with him to form a five-man phalanx. As a palate cleanser, vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz nurtures Brotzmann’s delicate side in a duet setting. Trumpeter Peter Evans’s well-named Pulverize the Sound trio should sustain the squall in between.
