Last summer, Seersucker began peddling its brand of “marginally healthier, WASP-ish Southern food” to the denizens of Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill. They gobbled it right up, and made Seersucker a success. Successful enough, in fact, to spin itself off.
Grub Street reports that the restaurant has begat Smith Canteen, a coffee bar and takeout shop down the block at Smith and Carroll streets. As at Seersucker, Counter Culture coffee will be served, along with soups, salads, sandwiches, and pastries baked on the premises.
Many ingredients will, oh yes, be sourced from the Greenmarket and other nearby locales. There will also be lots of press tin and dark wood and robin’s-egg-blue surfaces, making the shop’s interior design almost as determinedly inoffensive as Seersucker’s menu.
