Sometimes I’m LMFHO over them, but other times it’s like WTF?
Maybe the height of well-meaning absurdity with acronym-mania came when a perfectly nice person recently approached me to say he liked my review of IHO.
“What are you talking about?” I replied. “The International House of Pancakes? I mean, I love the place, but I don’t recall ever reviewing its fine fare.”
No, he explained.
He meant the Tony Kushner play The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures.
If ever a title needed an acronym, that was it, but still, I wasn’t hep enough to get the abbreviation, whereas if he’d said “the Kushner play,” it would have definitely rung my chimes.
This is similar to the recent incident on a Broadway board, when someone actually referred to “HTSIBWRT.”
Responded another commenter, “Couldn’t you have just said How to Succeed?”
