Prepare for a Heat Wave; Westchester Girl Lauren Spierer Missing from College; ‘Voodoo Mom’ Gets 17 Years in Prison


• We’re about to get the second heat wave of the year. Wednesday and Thursday temperatures are predicted at 95 degrees, “with heat index values over 100 degrees.” Today the high will be 88, though it will feel like 92. [WSJ]

Lauren Spierer, a 20-year-old Westchester girl, is missing. She was last seen “walking barefoot alone” from a friend’s apartment in Bloomington, Indiana, where she attends Indiana University. Earlier in the night she’d been at a local bar. Her keys were found a block away from where she was last seen and Bloomington Police suspect foul play. [NYP]

• Dominique Strauss-Kahn pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges of sexually assaulting a maid from the Sofitel Hotel in Midtown. [NY1]

• The so-called “Voodoo Mom,” Marie Lauradin, who set her 6-year-old on fire in a demon-casting ritual, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison. Her daughter was left with scars over 25 percent of her body. [NYDN]

Glenn Beck, who leaves Fox on June 30, is going to start charging for a monthly subscription to his daily online talk show this summer. Access to his Internet network GBTV will cost $5 to $10. [NYT]
