At This Point, Gabrielle Hamilton Is “Barely Interested” in Food


The vibrant descriptions of roasting lamb, Greek seafood, and Italian produce that crowd the pages of Blood, Bones & Butter might lead you to think otherwise, but Gabrielle Hamilton is kind of over food.

Or, more specifically, she’s over people talking endlessly about food. During a recent interview with Chicago’s The Interview Show, the show’s host, Mike Bazer, asked her, “Are you not obsessed with food?” “I’m not, I’m barely interested,” Hamilton responded as the audience laughed. “I mean, I love food. But I don’t like to talk about it for very long.” Unlike foodies, a group whom Hamilton terms a “bummer … it just seems like a population that has misplaced priorities. They’re just obsessed with food.” They’re also, one might assume, a sizable segment of her book’s audience.
