If, unlike us, you have not eaten your weight in ice cream this week, then you may be interested to know that this weekend will present numerous opportunities to consume it.
On Friday from 1 to 10 p.m., Peels will host an ice-cream social featuring the wonderful work of Shuna Fish Lydon, its lovely and talented pastry chef. The offerings will include spicy-coconut sorbet, lemon sherbet, and butterscotch-cumin buttered-pecan ice cream, and they’ll all cost you $1.50 for a single scoop and $3 for a double. Given that the median price of a scoop is about $4 these days, that’s a pretty fantastic bargain.
On Saturday, the Macaron Parlour and Melt Bakery will team up to make dessert at the Hester Street Fair in honor of the market’s SMASH! Tennis Challenge. Expect some kind of macaron-ice cream sandwich, as well as paletas from La Newyorkina and similarly cold refreshment from Bruce Cost’s ginger ale.
Speaking of La Newyorkina, Fany Gerson will be at the New Amsterdam Market on Sunday to promote her new cookbook, Paletas. She’ll also be giving out free paletas to kids, though plenty of parents may find themselves angling for one as well.
