Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: Vodka Ting
The bar: Woodwork (583 Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, 718-857-5777)
The price: $8
Ingredients: Vodka, Ting Soda, and lime.
The buzz: Sometimes, the origins of a cocktail are more interesting than the cocktail itself. At Woodwork, Prospect Heights’ popular soccer bar, people from the neighborhood’s considerable Jamaican population kept coming in and trying to order Ting, a bubbly soda made with Jamaican grapefruit that’s pretty popular in Jamaica and all over the Caribbean. Think of it like a grapefruit version of Orangina and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what it tastes like. After enough people asked for it, the bar started stocking it, and eventually decided to kick it up a notch with almost two shots of vodka and a bit of lime.
The result? A very potent cocktail that comes off as a lighter, carbonated version of the classic Greyhound. It’s not the most complex, inventive cocktail, but it gets the job done, especially in the intense summer heat.
