Dish No. 99: Dim Sum Go Go’s Three-Star Dumplings


Welcome to the 2011 Edition of 100 Dishes to Eat Now, Fork in the Road’s handy list of some of our favorite dishes — old standbys and new finds alike. Over the ensuing weeks, we’ll be counting down our beloved eats, all leading up to our Best of 2011 issue.

It’s hard to go wrong with any kind of dim sum, that is, unless you’re a vegetarian. While there are some exclusively vegetarian dim sum spots around the city, Dim Sum Go Go is a good bet to sate carnivores and herbivores alike, in large part thanks to their fairly extensive vegetarian roster. And one such meat-free treat is the Three-Star Dumplings.

In large part, these dumplings are fun to order because they are so gosh-darn cute. The wrappers, shaped like tiny flowers (or stars, perhaps), are bright pink and frilly and as girly as, well, a Chinese breakfast food can be. The wrapper is glutenous and pliant, which contrasts nicely with the crunch of the chopped jicama and lotus root inside. It’s not the best-tasting in dumpling in town, but we might just wager it’s the prettiest.
