JellyNYC Putting On New Concert Series In Deep, Deep Brooklyn

After a pretty lousy 2010 the concert-promotion crew JellyNYC has taken leave of the Williamsburg waterfront and announced Rock Beach, a summer series of concerts at the all-the-way-out-there Aviator Sports Complex kicking off with a July 9 show starring Penguin Prison, Wild Yaks, Janka Nabay and the Bubu Gang, and Monogold (above). The shows will take place July 9 and 24, August 7 and 20, and September 3 and 10; the last three shows will allow people the option to camp out. Admission is free as long as you give JellyNYC your email address RSVP on the official site, and the fest is sponsoring $20 shuttle buses between the venue and points in Brooklyn and Manhattan so concertgoers don’t have to spend too much time on the subway. A flyer listing some of the bands playing this summer—among them, none other than today’s YIMBY honorees White Sands!—is below.

If I could just quibble with the press release for a second: “The Rockaways of Brooklyn”? I know that the Rockaways are hip this summer with all the foodies being out there, but (believe me when I tell you I know this all too well) they are located entirely in Queens, which is not the borough where your shows are happening, JellyNYC. Sheesh. Is this what people who live in “East Williamsburg” feel like?
