The New York Post spoke to Debbie Kivel, the ex-wife of Levi Aron, the 35-year-old man arrested today for the murder and dismemberment of 8-year-old Brooklyn boy Leiby Kletzky. As in the aftermath of any crime, particularly such a heinous one orchestrated at the hands of someone you know — or in this case, had been married to — Kivel uttered words of disbelief and shock. She also said he “loved children. He loved kids. My kids are now 13 and 10, but when we were married they were younger — and he loved them.”
Kivel lived with Aron in Tennessee and the two split in 2007 after a year of marriage — they’d met on a Jewish matchmaking site — due to a “clash of character.” Also,
“It was more like brother/sister,” she said, of the relationship.
Kivel had just spoken to her ex-husband by phone and found him “normal: Everything sounded fine and normal.”
Her father, for his part, said “He was creepy person.”
