Sean Muldoon just might own this town soon enough. Not only has the noted Irish mixologist just completed the revamp of the cocktail program at Harry’s Steak, but he also has several other bars in the pipeline. Next up is a Prohibition era-themed (sigh) cocktail lounge in Chelsea called Bathtub Gin, set to open at 132 Ninth Avenue in late July.
Muldoon’s partners on the project are Peter Poulakakos, of Harry’s, and nightlife veteran Dave Oz. According to the Facebook page, chef Joe Mallol, also from Harry’s, will be in the kitchen. Muldoon gives Class Magazine the details:
The bar is cool and quirky and is unique for that part of the city. During the day the front portion of the store, which will be called “Half & Half Coffee Shop,” will act as a small coffee shop, whereas in the evening a door at the rear will lead to a 1920s-themed speakeasy lounge. The coffee shop will stay open through the night and guests can avail of a coffee, beer or glass of wine while they wait on a table becoming free in the bar. It is quite like PDT I suppose, but it has owner Dave Oz’s individual stamp to it.
Muldoon is also working on an as-yet-unnamed project in the Financial District with Poulakakos, as well as his pet project, a cocktail bar called the Dead Rabbit. He is currently scouting locations, but has yet to find a good home for the latter.
