Pieces — which is basically the gay Cheers — has been trying to move to an 8th Street location and has been cooperating with the Community Board to assure them the place won’t be a nuisance (which it never has been all these years on Christopher Street).
Still, they were strangely given a big “No way, gays” by an important committee.
According to owner Eric Einstein:
“At this past Thursday’s meeting, we received a recommended DENIAL of our bid to move Pieces to 8th Street.
“Those of you who were there know this should have been a clear cut approval. There was no explanation given for the decision.
“The fight isn’t over. The full Community Board meets on Thursday, and our show of force can overturn the recommendation of the committee.
“Besides trying to fill the room to overflow, I encourage everyone to speak at this meeting. In order to speak, you must fill out a speaker card by 6:15 PM. Speakers should articulate why Pieces is important to them, to the Village, and to the gay community.
“A key point to emphasize is that Pieces is not a nuisance where it is now and will not be in its new home.”
Let’s help out and put Pieces back together again!
