• We will have more heat today. Not that you hadn’t noticed. And Thursday, and Friday, there will be “excessive heat with afternoon temperatures of 95 to 100 degrees.” New York, meet Day Five of your heat wave. [WU]

• In subways stations, it’s even hotter. Some intrepid journalists actually had to go and measure this. At 72nd and Broadway yesterday, for example, it was 92 degrees outside but 100 degrees in the station. Now you know what you always knew, though it probably doesn’t make you feel any better. • Due to budget cuts, it can take a very long time to get arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court, which means that “one night in jail” can stretch to many. [NYT]

American Airlines has announced it will buy at least 460 new passenger jets between 2013 and 2022. They claim this is the “largest aircraft order in aviation history.” What does this mean for baggage fees, huh? [NPR]

• A 40-foot-deep sinkhole opened under a woman’s bed in Guatemala City. No one was injured, but jeez. [CNN]

• There is a new planking, or a new owling, or whatever. It’s called “leisure diving,” and it is appropriately ridiculous. On the plus side, at least there are pools involved. [Daily Mail]
