Remember the mind-blowing scenes in Inception, with buildings toppling over each other and the city’s landscape unwinding before our eyes? The work of artist Dagmara Genda is very similar to that. Building Disaster, Genda’s first New York show as a result of winning 3rd Ward’s Winter Open Call, is a mash-up of scenes, juxtaposing the poor and the rich in a world that is literally drawn upside-down atop each other. This site-specific installation, made of intricate hand-cut glossy vinyl, will take over an entire hallway in 3rd Ward, which is perfect for her style of storytelling–it flows as a tour of a dreamlike reality.
