Another Famed Restaurant Is Bye-Bye

Film Center Cafe, on Ninth Avenue at 44th Street, was for a long time a sensible Theater District place for nice meals (the turkey dinner was particularly lavish), strong brunches, and lively ambience.

Well, I just passed by and it’s kaput. Another victim of the slippery, unappetizing economy.

The sign outside thanks patrons for their years of support and urges them to go to the other eateries in the chain.

Wah. I like anything with “film” and “cafe” in the name, and will really miss this place, especially since the nearby joint where they scarily wheel Turkish dessert trays at you will probably benefit.
