The “Big Four” of thrash metal—Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax—are playing together at Yankee Stadium in a couple weeks. Tonight, however, you can see the band that Metallica says influenced those bands most: Diamond Head. As part of the late ’70s New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, Diamond Head helped usher catchy melodies and punk tempos into metal, alongside bands like Iron Maiden and Def Leppard. But it’s the support of Metallica, who often cover their “Am I Evil?”—the song the Big Four have frequently played together at their European concerts—that has kept them from becoming a footnote. With Shitkill and Livesay.
